One day vacations are usually not exciting things. However this one was. It contained 3 distinct parts. First was a trip to the Louisville Slugger museum. Second was to Mega Cavern, and finally a ball game between the Bats and Columbus Clippers at Slugger field. It was fun, it was neat, and it was great. We went with Shawn,Tiffany,Jonathan,Lauren,and Austin. Austin made it through his first ball game with a sizeable nap from the 7th on.
The Slugger museum where baseball bats are made was just awesome. The factory was more automated than I thought and the museum part entertained young and old alike. I got my picture with Babe Ruth and Ken Griffey Jr but avoided the Ted Williams wax statue because I do not like Red Sox and he looked more like Ichiro than Teddy Ballgame. Maybe thats from having his head cryogenically frozen. We got free minibats as a souvenir.Austin like the small world batting cage where he swung his mini bat and hit the whiffle ball consistenly. He also did not want to leave.
Next was a surprize for me. In Louisville is a Cavern where they used to mine limestone and now have 17 miles of underground cavern where they store Salt, Vehicles and anything else. It is a constant 56 degrees and the tour containes a scene from a 1960s bomb shelter where elite personel were supposed to go if Russia dropped the big one. The highlight was our Tom Tom that go us from downtown to the Cave and back with her sultry voice guiding us all the way.
Finally we went to Slugger field for a ball game. the Bats won 4-2 but the ballpark was spectacularly beutiful. Even more so that Victory Field in Indy. It had a brick early 20th century look and feel. I got my pic taken with a statue of "pee Wee" Reese out side of the ballpark.The atteWndance was 10,222. Over in rightfield corner as a carosel and playground for the Kids. Oh and after the game on the way home we stopped at Sonic in Scottsburg, a real treat for me.
Well as I look back I had a nice time my favorites were the museum, ballpark, and Sonic.
