UNEXPECTED PLEASURE

Okay its friday and Russ, Lynn,Sue, and myself head out for lunch at Lonestar in Anderson and some "gaming" at Hoosier Park. Things went pretty well, I had a 10oz chopped steak with delicious steak fries( now I don't particularly like fries but these were excellent) and a cup of chilli which was also good. Now on a full stomach we or should I say they went gaming. For 3 or 4 hours the gamed I found some nice spots to stop and read. I am working on a Louie LaMour western and kinda getting into it. You see I am not a gambler but I love to read. We about that time Suwe,Lynn and I decided to go up stairs and leave Russ to his gaming. We we sat and chatted for almmost an hour when Russ had finally finished. We decided to grab a burger at a 50's join called Johnny Rockets. Bad idea for not great price worse and I became interested in what was going on behind me. So I tooled over to discover horse racing. Now I must say it was interesting. I have seen the Kentucky Derby on TV and such. My friend Tom has mentioned it, but I have never actually seen one. So while the rest of the group was finishing up (I eat 2x faster than all of them)I watched the 6th race at HP. The first horse I noticed was a big white horse number 2, and so to make it interesting in my mind I bet on him and later another horse was wearing orange colors, no 7. So they get in the gate and off they go for 6 furlongs. Early on ol no 7 is leading and he looks good. As they come down the strech and seemingly out of no where big white no 2 charges past everyone to win. I pump my fist into the in victory. Now I am having a good time. The 7th race was non descript but the rest of the gaong joined me. After another 20 minutes between races the 8th race was being set up. I had acquired a racing form by this time and read that "Jack in the Pulpit" was a favorite in this race. I told the group what I knew and Russ and Sue left our table. Now I am inside watching horse racing for free sitting at a table and everyone around me is having a good time, me included. Russ and Sue come back after both of them having placed bets on no 10 Jack in the pulpit. Our very first bet. Its a 7 furlong race and off she goes. Well Jack did not win but he finished second so I was very happy. So its getting late going on 9 and only 3 races left so we decide to leave go home and play euchre. Just to make it 3 different kinds of gambling we decide to all put in .50 which Russ and I win to cap off a very nice evening. Next up our 25th anniversary party next Saturday chose your costumes!

HISTORIC TRIANGLE WILLIAMSBURG VA

Well we're back from Williamsburgh Virginia and glad to be home. The trip home lasted about 755 miles from Ft.Eustis in Newport News to McCordsville and took 14 hours mostly at night. Susan with help from Jessica averaged 53.39 mph with stops for eating, baby feeding and changing (Ashlynn slept all the way home). While in VA we saw Yorktown,Jamestown,Williamsburg, and Monticello. Williamsburg was the best and had the most gift shops and book stores. Next was Monticello the home of Thomas Jefferson. Jamestown was nice with a Fort,Indian village, and 3 ships at dock. I went on the Elisabeth, Susan toured the Susan Constant and no one went on the Godspeed. Yorktown was last. The visitor center was good but the battlefield was more like driving thru Brown County with little or now monuments and signs just woods. In fact all of Virginia is Mountains and Forests. So is West Virginia. Tim enjoyed seeing Jess and Ashlynn. He went with us to Williamsburg. I of course got many souverniers as well as decent food except for Shoney's in WVA which tasted just like it had in Greenfield. In fact some of the food seemed like it was left from that time. Next up is our 25th anniversay which will be SCARY.
