Another Great Night @ The Show

As the hands on the clock strike minight Mike come over and says "you up for another game tonight, yaknow I got to score some runs" I replied in the affimative. It was Tampa Bay hosting the Reds. James Shields versus Edison Volquez. It was a classic. Nobody scored. Nothin thru 5, then 9, then 11. Both hurlers never gave an inch scoreless. The Reds had about 7 hits and the Rays 1 or 2. Volquez and Shields dueling in the Florida sun. Thru 13 it was 0-0. Tampa brings on Percival to relieve, and Mike get 2 on. A single brings home a run then Edwin Encarnacion belts a 3-run Jack to make it 4-0. Further the Reds get two more on and Willie Taveras Triples to increase it to 6-0 and then he scores on a basehit. The Reds pound out 7 14th inning runs. Even thou he said he would bring in a reliever he lets Volquez finish it for the win. Edison Volquez is the star of the game pitching 14 innings allowing only 3 hits and 10 strikeouts. The numbers were Reds 7 runs 15 hits and 1 error (by Encarnacion). TB gets 0 runs and 3 hits with 0 errors. This MLB09 the show is really realistic. The parks are neat and the game is pretty close given a rookie was playing. After the game we played some HR derby which J.Hamilton won over Howard,Pujols. Then in a 2 inning exhibition the all time greats lead by Cy Young lost to the Silver Sluggers 7-1 in new Yankee Stadium. Really cool. I could see this replacing text baseball someday. And I know it will among the younger set. Even now the boys talk about different video games we have shared and played. This will replace the APBA, War Games, and other board games of the past.

THE THRILLER IN DC

Well last night we went out for dinner and stopped at Meijer for some groceries. It was pay day weekend so I begrudgingly went along. At Meijer I spotted MLB09 the show which I have decided was for me. The review says it is the best next generation baseball game ever released. I found it at $59.99. Whew way to high for my pauper's blood. So we headed for our local Wal-Mart. Yep I was right same game $29.99 but the clerk would not go into the department as they were waxing the floor. On the way home Susan barked at me like she was crazy, which women are at times. I being a kind gentle soul barked right back. Then she whipped the car around and headed for the 96th street WM. I was having a conversation with Shawn about the NCAA brackets when she ordered me to stay put. A few minutes later she came back with said game, for said price.
Well last night I greedly opened my prize and played 3innings losing to the Indians my Reds only managed 1 hit. Today however my youngest Mike (19) sat in to play a Seattle Mariner, Washington National game. This is a good father-son momment we seem to share often. He also helped me fight the Civil War recently.
Well the game was close Seattle leading 4-1. It was getting late in the game when I did something I had never done. I grabbed a ball cap (I have over 200) and turned it inside out chanting "rally, rally, rally". Well right away the Nats scored a run but Washington was still short by 4-2. Harry Heilman (?) came in for the Ms and it is now the last of the 9th. Mike gets a couple of guys on and Christian Guzman comes up. Mike hits the guess pitch button just right and a deep fly to rightfield. The balls shadow streaks toward the the fence. Mariner rightfielder goes back to the fence and then stops. The ball sails over the fence for a game winning, last of the 9th walk off Homer. Nats win 5-4. Heilman is shown in the dougout throwing his mitt down. The Nats go wild. Mike has the biggest smile on his face. He looks at his old dad and says "Rally Cap". I burst out in laughter. What a damn game saved $30.00 and got a priceless moment to boot.

Taylor

Among my half a dozen grandkids there is one named Taylor Camile Stone. She looks a lot like a young Susan and enjoys comeing overhere to visit. Her mom Michelle is nice to us and lets Tayor visit often. I do not have a recent pic so I just skip that part. She visited weekend before last and was very curious about stuff in my room. She said "Granpa I like coming in your room, it reminds me of a museum." For a guy like me who has underwear older than she is I took that as a compliment. She also says I'm crazy because I say funny things. Actually now that she is older its kinda fun havin her around. She recently was examining my cell phone. When one opens it up there is a photo of Jonathan I took a couple of years ago. Taylor made a point of telling me I had no picture of here and why wasn't she on my phone instead of Jonathan. I just shrugged and said cause he is better looking. Well that did it she made a point of getting Grandma Susan to take her pic and put it in my phone where it would be when I opened the phone. I am sorry to say yesterday I opened the phone and good ol Jonathan was staring me in the face. Evidently she didn't save. Lastly she seems to have some sort of eye problem. First she has a lazy eye, which in my opinion is better than a lazy butt. Also she has an eye problem which causes her to wear glasses and take drops. The drops leave her with blurred vision in school ( I think its 3rd grade). This in turn gets her special help which is okay but youall know how kids are to each other. She is a nice girl who like stuffed animals, says she would like to be a vegetarian, no veteraniarn. Any way I like her.

Whats This ?

Okay I am making an entry on Susan's Acer Netbook. My best description is a tiny computer. I am mentally keeping track of the errors my "big ham hands "are making (9) while I type this.
Earlier today I played a Strato game on Mr.Tiny. The White Sox lost to the Reds 08 season 1-0. Aaron Harrang defeats Javier Vasquez. Jeff Keppinger doubled and Joey Votto singled him home. We had to Supersize most things on the screen. Still it was kinda like being Gulliver in tinytown.
Oh The picture insert I swiped from Sues pics. Its so small I can't figure out what is is of. Kinda looks like a family or extended family card game. )home at 7:30 or 8:30 at night. Tonight its 7:30 and its now 4:10. Which reminds me that the clocks change on the 8th. I think when I get to 50 errors I will suddenly stop. I don't think thats going to be long (29). This reminds me of being in college. When I took notes at the side of paper I would write the time 4:12. Sue found some and wanted to know why. I told her that it was my way of making sure that time was really moving. Yesterday I did some house cleaning. I also filled 2 monster boxes of cards. I am very sore, legs hurt, from the activity. Heaven forbid I might have been actully working at a job. Okay Shawn called yesterday said was doing fine. Mike just finished classes for the day and will go to work till closing. Pat I talked to on Sunday. He is in the later stages of activating a new progam for FFA. Vanessa was cute Saturday night. She is almost 20 months old and starting to put sentences together. Tim is schooling and working at blockbuster. He evidently is seeing a girl who works at IMPD and she loves dogs (explains why she likes Tim). She had two black Labs and lives in a 1 bedroom apt. Their names are Gracie and Samantha. Maybe they can come visit Nutmeg and Ginger. I watched Bob and Tom last night and they had on commedian/ventrilloquist Jeff Dunham. It just not the same as radio. You can see them and that takes away from the imagination. 4:24 Jeff talked about doing his act since he was in elementary school. It just goes to show anything thats any good must be practiced for a long time. It how I could hit a baseball, shoot a basketball, etc.

BIORYTHMS

Well I half heartedly crusied the internet. When I stumbled upon a bookmark for Biorythms. I have been a little down lately. You know long winter, sinus attacks, old age, diabetes, collesterol, no sex, leg pains (no not that leg),shoulder aches, and a host of other usual suspects. So on my biorythms I find that my Physical (strengh, health, and vitality) are at its peak. Meanwhile my intellectual (verbal, mathmetical, and creative) are about to bottom out, and emotional (stability, outlook and ability to get along) has just bottomed out. So no wonder I am not in a good mood. Sounds like a good excuse to be in a bad mood. Further my mastery is at lowest point while my passion and wisdom are about in the middle. What does all that mean. "beats the hell out of me". I also checked my compatibility and I'M 89% with Mike, but only 67% with Susan.

The Dream

I just woke up from a dream I was having. It was neat. I have noticed that being older ususlly means better dreams in every way. This time it was an interacitve novel except that I was for whom the prodution was being put on for. This was a turn of the century novel about a young man who was a gambler, risk taker, but handsome and debonair. He consistently made choices that drove him to the top or the bottom. In the dream he meets a beautiful next-door type woman who catches his fancy. They have a breif but meaningful relationship but of course he moves on for the next score. She of course is hurt but pulls herself together to become an actress-singer. Now the best part of this novel is that I could stop and go back to pick up the action where ever I wanted. When these two broke up I chased our hero and he personally told me that he was bored and needed something more exciting. Again I went back to find her. She was hard to track but after several tries like when I came upon the heros father alone and broke doing some meanial job. Another time a porter of sorts gave me like a program of this movie which helped me track the heroine. I finally found her on the set of a performance. She actually sat down to talk with me and told me about her being broken hearted abut losing our hero but it had made her pick herself up and move on. She was still in love with him but glad he was gone. I spoke one more time with her as I was trying to get out of the dream by looking for my parents. (as usual I'm lost) Anyway the scenery was great. The characters talking to me was the best, and I truly enjoyed my dreamgoing experience. By the way the price for this entertainment was only some late night snacks.

57-8 Royals

Well as a kid I tried to like teams that were the closest to me, of course hoping my Dad would take me to see them. Well it worked 2/3 of the time. The Reds and Royals made my must see list but the Bears never have. That is why I am replaying the 1957-58 Cincinnati Royals who are now 5-13 (33-39).This is their first season as they transfered their francishe from Rochester. They would also go on the call Kansas City-Omaha home and finally Sacramento. This season they have an ineresting player named Maurice Stokes. who was 6-7 232 from St.Francis college. I have found him to be more of a guard-foward-center. He seems to play well anywhere.
The Royals lose today's game 114-108. They Royals entered the final 4 minutes with all 5 starters each with 5 fouls. The first to go was Jim Paxson and he was replaced by next years coach Tom Marshall. Jack Twyman was second and Dick Ricketts came in. Finally Stokes fouled out and Dave Piontek went in.Thats was all but it cost the Royals a chance for a win. Now they play the same two teams again, Knicks and Pistons.
The last part of the story is about Maurice Stokes. On March12 the final game of the season Stokes fell and hit his head. He was knocked unconsious. Three days later he was permanently paralyzed after going into a coma. Jack Tywman a teammate and also a Pittsburgh native took care of him. He helped raise money for his medical expenses. Twyman started an exhibition game which established the Maurice Stokes Foundation. They actuall made a film about this called "Maurie" and former NFL star Bernie Casey played Stokes. Twyman said of his teammate "No one had seen a guy with that combinaton of strength, speed, and size." In57-8 he averaged 17.8 points 18.1 rebounds, and led the team with 6.4 assists per contest. This was his 3rd year. He probably would have ended up a Celtic.
